PAU Zoology Researchers bag top honors at International Conference on Microbial Innovations

Two young researchers from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana—Arshkamaljot Kaur, PhD scholar, and Dr Vibhu Vaid, Project Associate-I—emerged as award winners at the International Conference on ‘Harnessing the Power of Microbes for Viksit Bharat’ held at Panjab University, Chandigarh from March 18–19.

Ludhiana, March 21, 2025: Two young researchers from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana—Arshkamaljot Kaur, PhD scholar, and Dr Vibhu Vaid, Project Associate-I—emerged as award winners at the International Conference on ‘Harnessing the Power of Microbes for Viksit Bharat’ held at Panjab University, Chandigarh from March 18–19.

Both researchers are part of the ANRF, DST (SERB-POWER) funded competitive project titled “Evaluation of yeast-encapsulated essential oil-based biolarvicide formulation(s) for management of Aedes aegypti mosquito”, under the guidance of Dr Devinder Kaur Kocher, Professor of Zoology and Principal Investigator, and Dr Gurvinder Singh Kocher, Principal Microbiologist and Co-PI from the Department of Microbiology, PAU.

At the international event, Dr Vibhu Vaid received a Certificate of Merit for her oral presentation on “Yeast microencapsulation of neem oil: An eco-friendly approach to developing sustainable larvicide for the control of dengue-spreading mosquito, Aedes aegypti.” Meanwhile, Arshkamaljot Kaur was awarded 2nd prize in the poster presentation category for her research on “Citronella oil-loaded yeast microcapsules as effective biolarvicidal agents against Aedes aegypti.”

Dr. Tejdeep Kaur Kler, Head of the Department of Zoology, congratulated the team and lauded their contribution to environmentally sustainable mosquito control solutions.
