PBKA MEMBERS GET TRAINING IN BEEKEEPING AT PAU, ELECT NEW MEMBERS OF ASSOCIATION

To expand the skills of the beekeepers, a monthly training camp was held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) for the members of Progressive Beekeepers’ Association (PBKA), today. A total of 55 beekeepers attended the camp which was organised by the Directorate of Extension Education.

Ludhiana, October 4, 2023: To expand the skills of the beekeepers, a monthly training camp was held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) for the members of Progressive Beekeepers’ Association (PBKA), today. A total of 55 beekeepers attended the camp which was organised by the Directorate of Extension Education.

Dr Poonam A Sachdev, Principal Food Technologist, demonstrated the making of jam using honey. She told that honey, containing several health benefits, was a good substitute to sugar and could be used in several recipes to give different flavours and for good digestive system. Highlighting the incubational facilities being offered to the entrepreneurs at the Food Industry Business Incubation Centre of PAU, she said that the demand for food processing and value added products was seeing an upward trend in the wake fast-changing taste buds.

Dr LM Kathuria, an expert from School of Business Studies, created awareness regarding purity of honey and stressed upon producing adulteration-free honey. Producer-consumer could win each other’s trust only with the demand-supply of pure and high quality food products, he added.

Dr Jaspal Singh, Principal Entomologist, while dwelling upon queen bee rearing and management, told that beekeepers whether small, medium or big have seen substantial economic growth and development in their agri-businesses with the technical support of PAU. Being a lucrative occupation, beekeeping is expanding at a rapid pace in the light of health-conscious population and due to growing preference for honey-coated dishes.

Jatinder Singh Sohi, President of PBKA, discussed their field related apicultural problems.

Earlier, Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, welcomed the beekeepers and advised them to consult PAU experts for updated information on apiculture.

Jagtar Singh, Secretary, PBKA, proposed a vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, elections of PBKA were also held today wherein new executive committed was constituted which comprised Jatinder Singh Sohi as President, Charanpal Rai and Gurpal Singh as Vice-Presidents, Jagtar Singh as Secretary, Gurmeet Singh as Assistant Secretary, Kuldeep Singh as Finance Secretary, Kulwinder Singh as Assistant Finance Secretary, and Narpinder Singh Dhaliwal and Lakhwinder Singh as Advisors.
