PCM SD College for Women celebrates International Girl Child Day
Jalandhar, October 11, 2023: Women Empowerment Cell of PCM SD celebrated International Girl Child Day. On this occasion Surinder Saini, a national awardee and a renowned social worker was the speaker of the day. He is the observer of UNICEF, Punjab and is also the Chief Functionary Officer of the NGO named Jalandhar Welfare Society. He delivered his discourse on girl child and outrightly abhorred female foeticide. He held that female foeticide not only leads to a skewed gender ratio but also perpetuates societal inequality. The consequences are far-reaching, impacting not only women but society as a whole. It denies women their right to life and creates an environment where they may face violence and discrimination. He also insisted on maintaining female hygiene for their well-being for it is essential to break the taboos associated with it. Open and honest discussions can help normalize the topic and create a supportive environment for women. He also made students and teachers take a pledge against the practice of female foeticide. It is worth mentioning that around 1300 Asha workers have been trained under his able tutelage. The event aimed to promote awareness of the challenges faced by girls worldwide and the importance of gender equality in education and elsewhere. This day is indeed a reminder that empowering girls is not just a one-day affair but a continuous journey that requires our collective efforts. The event proved a success owing to the efforts of Women Empowerment Cell and the Incharge, Kawaljit Kaur. President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Prof.(Dr.) Pooja Prashar for organising the event that left a profound impact on all those who attended, reaffirming the college’s commitment to the cause of gender equality and women empowerment. Dr Sugandhi Bhandari, Shikha Puri and Dinakshi Mahendru also witnessed the event.
