PCM S.D. College for Women celebrates 'Lohri Diyan Di' with joyous traditions and cultural fervor

College for Women, Jalandhar, successfully organized the vibrant event "Lohri Diyan Di" to celebrate the festival of Lohri. Sponsored by the Rotary Club West, the celebration was held on the college campus, bringing together students and faculty in the spirit of tradition and festivity.
Jalandhar, January 13, 2025: The Women Empowerment Cell, in collaboration with the Rotary Club West and Youth Club of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, successfully organized the vibrant event "Lohri Diyan Di" to celebrate the festival of Lohri. Sponsored by the Rotary Club West, the celebration was held on the college campus, bringing together students and faculty in the spirit of tradition and festivity.
Lohri, a significant festival in Punjab and northern India, marks the end of winter and the arrival of longer days. Traditionally associated with the harvest of rabi crops, especially sugarcane, the festival symbolizes gratitude, prosperity, and new beginnings. It is celebrated with bonfires, folk songs, and traditional dances, fostering unity and joy within the community.
The celebration featured the traditional bonfire, symbolizing warmth and abundance. Students and faculty gathered around the glowing flames, singing folk songs and performing energetic Bhangra and Gidda, filling the atmosphere with excitement. Traditional treats like Revari, Gajak, and peanuts were shared among participants, adding to the festive cheer.
The occasion was uniquely special as the college celebrated Lohri, Lohri Diyan Di, highlighting the empowerment and joy of daughters. The chief guest of the event, little Bhavkirat, beautifully embodied this spirit and captivated everyone with her delightful presence.
The event was further enriched by the gracious presence of Shri Vinod Dada, Senior Vice President, and distinguished guests from the Rotary Club, including S. Tajinderpal Singh Bajaj, President; Rotarian Tarsem Singh Bhola; Rotarian Dr. S.P.S. Grover; Past President Kuldeep Singh; Past President P.S. Bindra; and DRR Sukhpinder Kaur. Their participation added to the vibrancy of the celebration and reflected their unwavering support for the college's initiatives.
Adding to the spirit of the event, the Rotarians honored the students of the Rotary Club by presenting them with badges, recognizing their dedication and contributions.
