Jalandhar, March 1, 2025: The Department of Science, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, celebrated National Science Day with an engaging and insightful event that highlighted the power of innovation and discovery.
A key highlight of the celebration was the One-Day Workshop on "Science to Start-up: Alum Innovation & Demonstration," which showcased a fascinating chemistry experiment demonstrating the practical applications of science in daily life. Students actively participated in the activity, where they transformed ordinary aluminum foil into potassium aluminum sulfate (commonly known as alum). The process involved dissolving aluminum foil in a potassium hydroxide solution, followed by the addition of sulfuric acid to precipitate alum crystals.
This hands-on experiment provided an excellent opportunity for students to understand key scientific concepts such as chemical reactions, crystallization, and the sustainable recycling of aluminum waste. More than just a chemistry experiment, it emphasized the importance of sustainability by demonstrating how aluminum waste can be effectively recycled, making science both educational and environmentally relevant.
The event concluded with an engaging discussion on the significance of science in everyday life and how small-scale experiments can foster curiosity and innovation among students.
President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, the other members of the Managing Committee, and the worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar congratulated the Department of Science and IIC for organizing an inspiring and educational event that encouraged scientific exploration and sustainability.
