The session provided a unique platform for students to interact with one of India's most esteemed economists.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Charu Dada, Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication, who introduced Mr. Ahluwalia’s significant contributions to India’s economic policies. The students, eager to engage, posed thought-provoking questions on topics such as inflation, economic growth, the role of NITI Aayog, economic reforms, GST, and the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). Faculty members also participated, making it a dynamic and interactive discussion.
Addressing a question on rising inflation, Ahluwalia explained how political agendas often influence fiscal management. He also shared his insights on India’s economic trajectory, national debt, and fiscal deficit, emphasizing the challenges of food subsidies and free power for farmers. Ms. Harpreet K. Kang, Dean of International Affairs, raised key points on the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision, to which Mr. Ahluwalia provided an in-depth perspective on India’s roadmap for development.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Naresh Sachdev, Director of Punjab College of Technical Education, expressing gratitude for Ahluwalia’s invaluable insights. As a token of appreciation, Dr. KNS Kang, Director General of PCTE, presented him with a memento, along with Swapan, Director of Student Welfare, who offered a bouquet.
