PDP Bill 2019 should see light of the day soon

Driven by the global spread of democratic government and the expansion of international human rights law, the prominence and visibility of the field of comparative law has grown exponentially. To deliberate on its various facets, an International Conference on Comparative Law was inaugurated at Amity University. Experts also shared their views on the various burning issues including data privacy and WhatsApp’s updated Data Sharing Policy among others.   
 
Organized by Amity Law School, Noida in collaboration with, the School of Business and Law, Edith Cowan University, Australia, the two-day conference has drawn participation from experts from Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. More than 12 foreign universities are participating in this conference along with national law universities. An MoU was also signed between Amity University and Edith Cowan University for encouraging academic & research collaborations.   
 
Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation welcomed the international gathering to the conference and stated that the event will provide multifaceted insight, help them in their professional progression and enable their holistic development. He also shared his strategy about developing the best Indian leadership style to achieve manifold success. Dr. Chauhan further called for creating an International Association of Law School Alumni and an International Association of Law School Faculty to create a synergy of minds.  
 
Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University averred that the conference will lead to international collaborations for enhancing the quality of education, providing opportunities for research alliances and invite deliberations on various topics of current relevance in the field of comparative law benefiting the students & participants.   
 
Mr. Vikrant Rana, Managing Partner, S.S. Rana & Co talked about the Right To Privacy in the Digital Age and how there is increased sensitivity among people about the protection of their personal data and its sharing. He added that the (Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019) PDP Bill which is pending should see the light of the day soon, so that there are some specific regulations to control the ‘unruly horse’ of personal data sharing and how it would also aid in bringing a new facet of privacy in the nation.   
 
Asso. Prof. Dr. Joshua N Aston, Associate Dean of Law, School of Business & Law, Edith Cowan University shared that the conference would provide a platform to share innovations, trends, concerns, practical challenges & solutions adopted in the field of comparative law.   
 
Prof. Francis Wang, President and Chairman, International Association of Law Schools; Dean Emeritus, Kenneth Wang School of Law, Soochow University, Suzhou, China in his keynote address shared that people would get through this global crisis and that the time now is most critical to discuss this subject. He added that the field of comparative constitutional law has grown immensely over the past couple of decades. He also shared that it is imperative to compare the legal structures of different countries to draw a better understanding of one’s own legal framework and to also allow improving the understanding of the relationship between the legal, social, political and economic spheres of a country as well as identifying opportunities for legal reforms.  
 
Prof. (Dr.) D.K. Bandyopadhyay, Chairman, Amity Law Schools said that law education has special significance and focus for Amity. He stated that the conference will provide an opportunity to legal professionals, academia, research scholars and students to explore the various domain comparisons between two or more countries. He also shared that the aim of this conference is to deal with the plurality of constitutional rules and to draw attention to similarities and differences to create models to explain the values that underpin the constitutional agreements.   
 
Prof. (Dr.) Aditya Tomer, HoI/Addl. Director, Amity Law School, Noida welcomed the gathering and stated how the event has brought together global luminaries from across the globe to reflect about comparative law.   
Also present during the day were Prof. Subir K. Bhatnagar, Vice-Chancellor, RMLNLU; Prof. Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU; Prof. Michael Peil, Associate Professor of Law and Vice Dean, JSW School of Law, Bhutan among various other speakers.   
 
Four National Law Universities [NLUs] are the academic partners for this conference including Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University [RMNLU], Lucknow; Gujarat National Law University [GNLU], Ahmedabad, Gujarat; Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh National Law University [HPNLU], Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.   
 
Day two of the conference will see paper presentations being made on the topics including ‘Freedom of Expression: Its Facets and Legal Implications’; ‘Privacy and Legal Dimensions’; ‘COVID 19: Its impact on Law and Governance (Miscellaneous Papers on Environmental and Personal Laws)’; ‘Intersection of 
Gender and Law’ and ‘Constitutional Jurisprudence and its Dimensions’.  
   
The sessions were well-attended by hundreds of students, staff and faculty members from across the globe.
