PDP on Application of MATLAB software organized in Doaba College
P.G. Department of Mathematics and P.G. Department of Computer Science & IT, Doaba College, Jalandhar, organized DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India sponsored One week Professional Development Programme (PDP) on "MATLAB for Life Sciences and Writing Skills with LaTex".
Jalandhar, January 6, 2023: P.G. Department of Mathematics and P.G. Department of Computer Science & IT, Doaba College, Jalandhar, organized DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India sponsored One week Professional Development Programme (PDP) on "MATLAB for Life Sciences and Writing Skills with LaTex" to enhance the programming skills, analysis capabilities and writing skills which help the students, researchers and faculty to learn MATLAB from industry perspective point of view and write effectively using LaTeX.
The inaugural session began with lighting of the knowledge lamp by Resource Person, Principal Sir and HoD, P.G. Department of Mathematics on 04.01.2023 in DBT sponsored Computational Mathematics Laboratory of the Doaba College, Jalandhar. Prof. Arvind Nanda, Head, P.G. Department of Mathematics, welcomed the resource person Dr. Vijay Kumar Kukreja, Head, Department of Mathematics, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology and gave brief introduction of the resource person to the participants who are the students, researchers and faculty from different colleges. He also shared the academic achievements of the resource person and aggravated the participants.
The worthy Principal, Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, discussed the use of innovative techniques, technology and mathematical software to make mathematics more interesting. He informed to the participants that Doaba college’s USP is to provide intellectually inspiring environment of learning to inculcate scientific temper among students. He also expressed that this resourceful program will prove asset to the participants. He also appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and motivated for continuing such efforts in future also.
Dr. Rajiv Khosla, overall DBT star college scheme coordinator, discussed about DBT star college scheme in Doaba College, Jalandhar. He mentioned that DBT Star College Scheme has been implemented in Doaba College in 2012 and the college has been conferred with DBT star college status in 2018 and received so far a financial assistance of Rs. 2 crores 36 Lacs for strengthening Science education under the mentioned programme. In 2020, the P.G. Department of Mathematics has been included in DBT star college scheme and awarded with a financial assistance of Rs. 25 Lacs for three years.
Prof. Gulshan Sharma, DBT scheme coordinator, Department of Mathematics, briefed the participants about the objective of PDP. First session of the PDP was conducted by Prof. V.K. Kukreja. He explained the importance and scope of the MATLAB in life sciences by given the life examples. In second session of the first day of the PDP, the participants were given hands on learning in solving MATLAB program.
The both tutorial and hands on training session of first day of the PDP were interesting and interactive, and it was concluded with submission of assignment given to the participants.
