In an insightful conversation, Jayesh More shares his experience of essaying Dilip Patel, a character defined by his complex, grey-shaded personality.
1. Dilip's journey in Pushpa Impossible is quite dynamic. How has this character and his relationship with Pushpa evolved?
The character of Dilip has undergone significant evolution through the story, surviving and thriving under any circumstances. His journey is of a transformation from sinner to saint. In terms of his relationship with Pushpa, they have gone through numerous challenges including their divorce and have now found common ground and established a friendship. Its seen that Dilip Patel is striving to become a better person and wants to stand by Pushpa and their children.
2. Dilip is known for his smart and determined nature. Are there any personal traits or experiences that you share with his character?
After portraying Dilip for over three years, I feel a deep connection with his character, particularly his strong will and persistence, which have greatly influenced me. His ability to confront challenges head-on and adapt to any situation is similar to the survival instincts I possess. Playing the character of Dilip has helped me learn and grow as an actor.
3. The recent track where Dilip outsmarts Bapodara and returns to the chawl is a major turning point. How did you prepare for that sequence?
This scene was indeed a significant turning point in the story, filled with tension and drama. For this scene, we had detailed discussions with our director to align the emotions and nuances that needed to be portrayed. Rehearsals played a key role in fine-tuning the performance and ensuring that the scene delivered the impact it deserved. It was important to strike the right balance between Dilip’s cleverness and the simmering conflict with Bapodara, which made the scene particularly challenging yet fulfilling to perform.
4. Tell us about your on-screen and off-screen bond with Karuna Pandey.
On-screen, the audience gets to see the drama and chemistry between our characters, but off-screen, our bond is more like that of young friends—fun, lively, and full of camaraderie. Karuna is an incredible dancer and loves making dance reels in her free time. Sometimes, we join her for fun and try to match her moves, but honestly, I fail every time—there’s no way we can beat her at dancing! These moments of laughter and shared experiences add to the comfort and connection we have, which I believe reflects in our performances as well.
5. Even though Dilip and Bapodara’s characters are constantly at odds, what is your off-screen relationship like with Jayesh Bharbhaya?
Off-screen, Jayesh Bharbhaya is like an elder brother to me, and we share a strong bond of mutual respect and understanding. Since we both understand each other's acting methods and techniques, it allows us to collaborate effortlessly, bringing authenticity to our performances. Despite the intense rivalry between our characters on-screen, working with him is always a fun and enriching experience. His presence brings an energy to the set, and every scene we share becomes an opportunity to learn and enjoy.
6. You’ve garnered a lot of love and support for your portrayal of Dilip. What message would you like to share with your fans who continue to follow your journey both on and off-screen?
I am deeply grateful and humbled by the overwhelming love I’ve received from every corner of the country. Moments like these make me realize the profound impact this character has had on people’s lives. It’s heartwarming to know that people see me as part of their household or community.
