Ludhiana, February 6, 2014: Reiterating that people to people contact is must to bring in peace and harmony in Indo- Pak relations, Rajiv Bali, Chairman, Punjab Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “Trade and only trade can bring harmony and peace between the two neighbours.”
“More and more avenues, and events like Indo-Pak International Trade Expo, being organised in Ludhiana from February 13 to 17need to be created which give the people of both the countries to come together, participate and take back the fresh and first hand impressions of the people’s perceptions on either side”, said Bali.
“There has been a significant increase in cross border travel from India to Pakistan and vice versa in the recent past”, said Bali, adding that it is likely to increase manifold.
With India and Pakistan agreeing for 24x7 trading from across Attari (India) and Wagah (Pakistan) land border, traders are upbeat about the opening of Integrated Check Post round the clock. The trade between the two countries would reach new heights, said Dalip Sharma, Regional Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, adding, “We also anticipate that trade will witness multi-fold increase in the coming years with the proactive efforts of both the governments.”
If both the rail and the road routes work at full capacity, trade could go up by 200 per cent.
According to a study released by Assocham, the opening up of the integrated check post at Attari-Wagah border and Pakistan’s granting the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India can increase the bilateral trade to eight billion dollars a year in the next two years from the current level of $2.6 billion.
It is worth mentioning that India mainly imports Cement, Gypsum, Dry Fruits, Rock Salt etc. from Pakistan and it exports meat, vegetables, soya meal, Raw Cotton, yarn etc. to Pakistan.// ludhiana news online, ludhiana news in English, ludhiana news, ludhiana current news, ludhiana news live, Ludhiana breaking news, Ludhiana headlines, Ludhiana latest news, punjab news, india news, punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news,
