Chandigarh, September 23 2024: A significant step towards commercialising microbial hyaluronic acid has been taken with the sanction of financial support by the PU-IIT Ropar Regional Accelerator for Holistic Innovations (PI-RAHI) Foundation, Northern Region S&T Cluster.
The proposal, titled "Towards Commercialization of Microbial Hyaluronic Acid: From TRL 4 to TRL 7," has been awarded financial support of Rs. 9.5 lakhs under the Cluster Phase-1 Call for R&D Proposals. Led by Principal Investigator Prof. Prince Sharma and Co-Principal Investigator Prof. Neena Capalash from Panjab University, the initiative aims to optimise the production of hyaluronic acid, a compound widely used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, with the goal of scaling from lab-scale production to commercial viability over the next six months.
Prof. Prince Sharma has an established history of successful technology transfers, having collaborated with companies such as New England Biolabs (USA) and Cadila Pharmaceuticals, and is working with multiple industry partners.
The project will be supported by Invigorate Biotechnologies LLP, whose team—including Davender Bhati, Jainendra Jain, and Rakesh Kumar—was present during the funding announcement to affirm their commitment to the commercialisation efforts.
The funding was announced in the presence of Chairperson of the Cluster and PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, Principal Investigator Prof. Rajat Sandhir, and Chief Operating Officer Ms. Neha Arora. This underscores PI-RAHI's commitment to driving innovation in the Pharma, Healthcare, and Medical Devices sectors.
