PILOT PROJECT INAUGURATED BY PUNJAB POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD IN BUDDHA NALLAH

Ludhiana: With a vision to take secondary measures for cleaning the polluted drains, Dr.S.S.Marwaha, Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board inaugurated a Pilot Project in Budha Nallah to improve the dissolved oxygen concentration in the surface water on June 4. The pilot project will consist of two surface aerators in the flowing channel of Budha Nallah to improve DO concentration.

He briefed through press note, that the performance of aerators will be monitored by the Board. After studying and analysing the results of the above pilot project, strategy will be formulated by the Board to clean the polluted river stretches. He further added that Punjab Pollution Control Board is strictly monitoring the Sewage Treatment Plants (STP's) in State of Punjab. Actions are being initiated against the defaulting STP's.

Disclosing to the press, Member Secretary of the Board, Er. Krunesh Garg said that such projects are done on experimental basis and Punjab Pollution Control Board is very keen to improve the water quality in the river stretches across the state.

On this occasion, Er. Gulshan Rai, Chief Environmental Engineer, Er. G.S. Gill & Er. Paramjeet Singh, Environmental Engineers, Er. Ramandeep Singh Sidhu (AEE) & Er. Rajesh Bawa (AEE), were also present.
