Plan for flood protection must be outlined: Manish Tewari

Rupnagar: Member Parliament Mr. Manish Tewari during a meeting at District Administrative Complex while reviewing the plan for prevention of possible floods in the district during the monsoon season directed the officials to keep a plan ready so that the flood situation faced last year can be avoided this time .
On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sonali Giri, SSP Swapan Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mrs. Deep Shikha, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mr. Amardeep Singh Gujral were also present.
He said that some problems had arisen last year due to lack of flood boats during the rescue operation so that more flood boats can be provided from the fund. Strengthen the embankments of the Sutlej River in the High Flood Zone area and set up relief camps in such a way that medicines, food and relief materials can be provided expeditiously. He said that the dams of the villages near which there was more danger due to rising water level should be strengthened.
In case of any problem regarding strengthening of dams in low flood areas, appropriate arrangements should be made in advance by meeting with the Sarpanchs of the concerned villages in collaboration with the villagers so that they know that how to avoid flood damage in their village and secondly they will be aware in advance to deal with the flood situation. He said that coordination should be made with NDRF in advance so that there would be no problems in handling the situation on the spot.Mr. Manish Tewari said that in the same manner as the Government of Himachal Pradesh has channelized its rivers, a suitable plan for channelizing the river should be prepared and brought to their notice. He said that special care should be taken for the cleanliness of the rivers flowing out of the river Sutlej so that their help could be sought for drainage of water if required. He said that the rivers of Sri Anandpur Sahib were quite clean while the river in Rupnagar area should also be cleaned in such a way that the drainage of flood water could be expedited.
Mr. Manish Tewari reviewed the presence of the officers during the flood season, thousands of staff in flood control rooms, 24 hours advance notice of floods, all possible relief items, boating training, relief center, telephone service, drinking water supply, canals. ,Maintenance of Police, Military Assistance, Road Transport, Clean Water and Power Supply in Cities, Thikri Patrol, Arrangement of Vehicles, Provision of Food and Beverage, Flood Report / Special Circumference, Inspection of Unsafe School Buildings, Government Buildings .He also got information about the security arrangements, fire tenders, hospital medicines, civil defense and ambulance as well as the arrangements made by the authorities.
He directed the heads of all the departments to make all possible arrangements for the protection of life and property of the people during the possible floods and no stone should be left unturned in these arrangements so that no one could be harmed during the floods. There should be no loss of life or property. He said that special arrangements should be made in the villages which may be affected during the floods and the officials of the concerned departments should visit the spot and take stock of the situation.
Prominent amongst others who addressed the meeting included Chairman Punjab Large Industrial Development Board Pawan Dewan, Sukhwinder Singh Saini Chairman Improvement Trust Ropar, Mr. Gurwinder Singh Johal SDM Rupnagar, Madam Kannu Garg SDM Shri Anandpur Sahib and Nangal, Mr. Harpreet Singh Atwal SDM. Shri Chamkaur Sahib and officials of other departments were also present.
