The Union Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has released funds amounting to Rs. 218 crore for Natural Disaster Management in Punjab. The allocated funds aim to provide relief and aid to residents who have been severely affected by the recent floods. The funds will be utilized for urgent repair work and financial assistance to farmers who have suffered significant losses due to the floodwaters. Earlier, Sunil Kumar Jakhar, the Chief of the Punjab BJP, had called for adequate compensation of Rs. 20,000 per acre for farmers whose crops have been completely destroyed or damaged. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann has emphasized the importance of conducting Girdawari promptly, while Mr. Jakhar has urged for the swift release of compensation to the affected individuals without any further delays.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, along with his council of ministers, MLAs, and Member of Parliament Balbir Singh Seechewal and Sushil Rinku, alongside administrative heads, are actively engaged in serving the people affected by the floods. These leaders are taking proactive measures to provide better services and support to those severely impacted by the floodwaters in the Doaba and Malwa Belt regions. Areas such as Sahkot, Lohian, Patiala, Fathegarh Sahib, and others have been particularly affected by the floods. Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand has caused rivers, rivulets, and drains to overflow in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, and many parts of Uttar Pradesh, resulting in significant damage to residential areas situated near these water bodies.
The Union Government has also announced substantial compensation for Himachal Pradesh, where bridges, roads, and other infrastructure have been washed away due to cloudbursts and heavy rains. National BJP President J.P. Nadda, Union Minister Anuragh Singh Thakur, and other representatives have met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss additional funding for Himachal Pradesh. Under the Natural Disaster Fund, the Union Government has already released Rs. 180 crore for Himachal Pradesh, Rs. 216 crore for Haryana, Rs. 413 crore for Uttarakhand, and Rs. 812 crore for Uttar Pradesh.
Since assuming his role as the Chief of Punjab BJP, Sunil Kumar Jakhar has visited Ferozepur to assess the situation in the flood-affected areas. The BJP High Command has expressed full confidence in Jakhar, considering his vast experience in politics.
Volunteers from various political parties and social organizations, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, are tirelessly working to extend assistance to the flood-affected people. Regardless of their political affiliations, these individuals are demonstrating remarkable compassion and humanity by providing help in every way possible.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, the President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), and former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal are actively assessing the losses incurred by the people due to the recent floods. It was nearly two decades ago when certain areas in Malwa faced waterlogging issues, which were subsequently addressed through the construction of drains, leading to the conversion of the region into fertile land.
