POLICE ARREST two in separate cases; recover opium, heroin

Ludhiana, March 10, 2013: In separate cases, police have arrested two persons under the NDPS Act.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the Ludhiana ADCP (Crime) Harmohan Sandhu told that in the first case, the accused had been identified as Kuldip Kumar (48), a resident of New Basant Vihar within jurisdiction of Police Station Basti Jodhewal.

Kuldip, a tea shopkeeper, was apprehended at a nakabandi held in near T-Point, Fambra Road on Saturday. The accused was coming on his scooter from Kali Sadak towards Fambra Road when apprehended. Police succeeded in recovering five packets of five kg each of opium from him.

The accused Kuldip has told the police that he had got the consignment from a person hailing from Rajasthan. He has been in this illegal trade for the last 2-3 years, said the ADCP (Crime). A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him at Police Station Basti Jodhewal.

In another case, the arrested accused had been identified as Rakesh Kumar, a taxi driver. Police have seized 35 grams of heroin from his possession at a naka. He was coming towards Dholewal bridge from Cheema Chowk when apprehended. The value of the recovered narcotics in the international market is worth about Rs. 17.50 lakh. The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act at Police Division No. 6.
