Jaipur, June 24 (HS):Rajasthan Legislative Assembly's Deputy Leader of Opposition Dr. Satish Poonia has written a letter to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot after visiting Barmer, Chauhtan, and Sanchore areas affected by Cyclone Biparjoy on June 22. He has demanded financial compensation and other necessary support for the storm victims.
Dr. Poonia urged the Chief Minister that due to cyclone Biparjoy, there has been a loss of life in western Rajasthan, and in some places, livestock, the main source of livelihood for the people, has also become extinct. Therefore, there is a special request to the Chief Minister that every kind of help be provided to the affected without any delay. Dr. Poonia wrote in the letter that especially the western regions of Rajasthan?Barmer, Jodhpur, Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, and Ajmer?have been particularly affected by the storm. You have also done an aerial survey. After your stay, I also visited some areas of Barmer and Jalore to get a sense of the ground reality. Walking to very remote villages and dhanis, the visible sight seen is very painful. Still, many villages, dhanis, and houses have become islands after being flooded, and people's huts and kutcha houses, including pucca houses, have also suffered huge damage. In some places, there has been a loss of life, and in some places, livestock, the mainstay of the people's livelihood, has also become extinct. No officer or employee of the state government has yet gone to take care of the people of the affected area; this is a surprising truth, contrary to what the government claims.
Dr. Pooni wrote that during his one-day visit to Viratra, Bhil's Basti, Dhanau, Gangasara, and Bavatlai, and Vedia, Sunthadi, Khasarvi, Kesuri, Saravana, and Sanchari towns of Jalore district, I went to the storm-affected areas, including Chauhtan town, and interacted with the people. I got it and shared the facts that we have seen.
