Powerloom workers stage protest


Ludhiana, September 13, 2012: Powerloom workers under the banner of Textile Mazdoor Union, Ludhiana staged a massive dharna outside the office of ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) in the Urban Estate, Focal point here today, in the support of their demands.

Protestors rued that that were not being given ESI services. They said they had already apprised the ESIC authorities about all these facts in a memorandum submitted to them in the month of August this year.     

According to the Union president Rajwinder, the ESIC joint director KS Dhaliwal visited the protestors and assured that they would got publish a notice in newspapers asking all the factory owners to ensure of providing ESI facility to all their factory workers. He said they had been assured that the factory owners would be given fifteen days time.

Further, Rajwinder told that the ESIC joint director also assured them that legal action would be initiated against the factory owners who would not comply their orders.

The protest dharna was lifted on this assurance given to the protestors by the ESIC joint director.
