Ludhiana: Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal (PPBM) general secretary Sunil Mehra has thanked Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma for enhancing the time of opening of shops till 1pm and allowing home delivery of food items till 8 pm.
In a statement here today, he said this step has been taken in view of the agitation being done by traders. He categorically stated that their agitation would continue till the timing of opening of shops is extended till 5pm in Ludhiana on the pattern of other districts in the state.
Mehra said that traders would gherao the residences of MPs, Cabinet Ministers and MLAs as a mark of the protest and to get them awakened. He added it is very difficult for the traders to run their livelihood in absence of adequate time for opening of the shops. On the other hand, traders are not being given any relaxation in taxes such as power tariff, property tax, sewerage bills etc.
He said traders are lacking funds for paying their monthly bills and taxes and even salaries to the workers in view of insufficient time to run their shops.
He said it is true that cooperation of all is must to defeat corona pandemic but it is also necessary to open shops to run the businesses. Only then economy of the state will run, he added.
Mehra said the farmers have been given relief package by the government but traders community has been ignored completely. He added the state government's "anti-trade" policy is not acceptable to them.
