Ludhiana, January 29, 2013: Pranaav Jerry Chopra started the year 2013 with a bang as he won `Smt. Vankina Anjani Devi Memorial All India Senior Ranking Tournament -2013’ at Hyderabad fromJanuary 23- 28.

“This is the first All India Senior National ranking tournament of 2013”, said Anupam Kumaria, General Secretary, Ludhiana Badminton Academy in a release here on Tuesday.

Pranaav Jerry Chopra pairing with his partner Akshay Dewalkar defeated former national champions Tarun and Arun Vishnu in gruelling match extending up to 3 sets. The scores were 16-21, 21-9, 21-15. Tarun and Arun were top seeds where as Pranaav and Akshay were second seeds. After loosing the first set at 16-21 Pranaav and Akshay came back and won the next two sets easily. In semi-final also, Pranaav and Akshay had tough match against Olympion V. Diju and Alwin Francis. Pranaav and Akshay defeated them by 21-19 and 21-14.

Pranaav is only 20 years of age and has already been permanent part of Indian team. He has honour of representing India in Thomas Cup, Asian Championship and World Championship. Pranaav and Akshay are now working hard and are eyeing next Olympics. Pranaav and Akshay have already won silver medal in Swiss International Tournament in 2012 which was played in Switzerland. Pranaav has represented India for the last 6 years in the junior as well as senior category.

Looking at Pranaav and Akshay performance, Badminton Association of India is giving full exposure to these youngsters and making them play all the international matches. Pranaav and Akshay recently played super series in Macau, Malaysia and China.

It is important to note that Pranaav is the youngest player in the team and is the only player from Ludhiana to represent India in Thomas Cup.

Pranaav has dedicated his victory to his coach Gopi Chand. Gopi Chand is working very hard to improve the game of Pranaav. He has also appointed Indonesian coach to train doubles players.

“Ludhiana Badminton Academy will honour Pranaav Chopra when he comes back to city in near future”, said Anupam Kumaria, adding  Pranaav has also promised to spend some time with the young and upcoming players of the academy.

Pranav would update the youngsters with the latest techniques of Badminton as per International standards, revealed Anupam.
