PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO SAVE OURSELVES FROM HEAT WAVE: CIVIL SURGEON

Ludhiana, June 4, 2019: With the increase in temperature these days, Civil Surgeon Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu has advised the residents to take precautionary measures to save themselves from “loo” (heat wave). He said that if the residents do not take precautionary measures, they might fall sick. He stated that residents would also have to keep a close tab on the climatic conditions of coming days from radio, TV, newspapers or other sources of information.

He suggested that in summers, even if one is not thirsty, one should drink a lot of water and one should prefer wearing khadi clothes. He said that to save from extreme sunlight, one should wear sunglasses, use an umbrella, hat, shoes etc and should carry water with them while going outside. He said that if one has to go out for work, our body should be properly covered and use of ORS, lassi, nimbu pani, buttermilk etc should be increased.

If one feels fatigued, headache, sweating, nausea, etc, contact the doctor immediately. He said that even animals should be kept safe in this weather and that is why, they should be kept under shade and should be made to drink lots of water.

He said that to keep our houses cool, curtains should be used, besides the windows should be opened during night time. He said that one can save himself from loo by taking bath more than once a day. He said employers should keep cold drinking water at workplaces, should not let anyone face direct sunlight, heavy labour work should be done during colder time of day, should increase rest duration for outdoor activities, besides pregnant women should keep special care during this weather.

Pet animals should not be kept in parked vehicles, should not go outside from 12 noon to 3 pm, should not wear bright coloured/heavy and tight clothes, should not do heavy work in high temperature, should not cook during high temperature, cooking place should be airy, restrict the use of alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks, should not eat high protein food.
