Dharamshala, May 16, 2018: President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind will be the Chief Guest in 9th Convocation of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF) of Himachal, on 22nd May. This was confirmed today Dr HC Sharma, UHF Vice Chancellor. Dr Sharma said, “This is a very proud moment for the university and we are thankful to the President and the Government of Himachal Pradesh for giving us this opportunity.”
VC further added that Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and Governor and Chancellor of the University, Archarya Devvrat, will also be attending the event. Several dignitaries from the state are also expected to attend the event.
“This will be the second instance when the President of India will be attending the convocation of the University. Former President R Venkataraman was the chief guest at the first convocation of the university held in the year 1988,” said VC
The University was founded in the year 1985 with the objective to promote education, research and extension education in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and allied disciplines
The university will be giving out degrees to 462 students of B Sc, M Sc in Horticulture, Forestry and Biotech programmes from the College of Horticulture, College of Forestry and College of Horticulture and Forestry, Neri. In addition, the students of MBA and PhD programmes will also be receiving degrees at the Convocation. Gold medals in eight disciplines will be awarded during the convocation ceremony.
