Prime Minister flags off RCF Kapurthala built 3 Phase MEMU for service in Kashmir Valley
Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala which has carved a niche in manufacturing world class coaches for premier trains won an other laurel yesterday, when its , one of the latest and popular coach products MEMU with 3 phase electrics was pressed into service in Kashmir valley. The train was virtually flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jammu yesterday on newly electrified Baramulla- Srinagar-Sangaldan route making it significant for better riding experience to passengers and environmental sustainability in the region.

Kapurthala, February 21, 2024: Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala which has carved a niche in manufacturing world class coaches for premier trains won an other laurel yesterday, when its , one of the latest and popular coach products MEMU with 3 phase electrics was pressed into service in Kashmir valley. The train was virtually flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jammu yesterday on newly electrified Baramulla- Srinagar-Sangaldan route making it significant for better riding experience to passengers and environmental sustainability in the region.
The coaches of 3 Phase MEMU ( Main Line Electrical Multiple Units) have stainless steel body designed for service speed of 110 kmph. Ethernet based Train Control & Management system (TCMS) has been provided which offer precise train control besides RDM (Rescue Drive Mode) feature which limits the train speed in case of any failure in Train Network. The Driving Coach has Aerodynamic Nose front with air conditioned Driver's cab and ergonomically designed Driver Desk. Low maintenance is the key feature of these coaches.
The 3 Phase MEMUs not only excel in technical brilliance but provides excellent passenger amenties too. Each coach has aesthetic interiors with FRP paneling, cushioned seats, wider windows, sliding doors, Mobile charging sockets. Energy efficient LED light fittings have been provided in each coach with 50% Emergency Lights. GPS based PAPIS (Public Address & Passenger Information System) comprising of screen displays and loud speakers in each coach facilitates passengers regarding stations onway. For secure travel, CCTV surveillance system with networking features has also been incorporated. Two Lavatories with Bio Toilets are also provided in each coach. Each Driving Coach can carry 226 passengers while trailer coaches can carry 325 passengers.
Hitherto, 504 MEMU coaches have been manufactured in RCF since then and are in service on Indian Railways network.
