Prime Minister honoured LPU Student Sumit Kumar at Republic Day Celebrations, New Delhi
On the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, LPU student Lance Corporal (LCPL) Sumit Kumar, pursuing a BA in Civil Services, presented a memento to Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the NCC Cycle Rally group. The rally, organized to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters and Bravehearts, saw LCPL Sumit lead the contingent, which included 12 dedicated NCC cadets.
Jalandhar, January 28, 2025: On the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, LPU student Lance Corporal (LCPL) Sumit Kumar, pursuing a BA in Civil Services, presented a memento to Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the NCC Cycle Rally group. The rally, organized to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters and Bravehearts, saw LCPL Sumit lead the contingent, which included 12 dedicated NCC cadets.
Covering a challenging 710 kilometres over 14 days, the rally began in Hussainiwala and concluded at the Parade Ground in New Delhi. Along the way, the cadets traversed six districts of Punjab and four districts of Haryana, sharing stories of India’s brave heroes and their sacrifices, before reaching Delhi Cantonment.
The rally, flagged off from the War Memorial in Hussainiwala by the Additional Director General of NCC, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh, was organized by the NCC Group Jalandhar. A total of 12 dedicated NCC cadets, including LCPL Sumit, participated in this prestigious event.
Colonel Dipankar, Commanding Officer of the 8 Punjab NCC Battalion, emphasized the rally’s purpose: to honour India’s 90-year-long freedom struggle and pay tribute to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Executed during the harsh winter conditions of January, the participation of these NCC cadets was aimed at fostering a deep sense of patriotism among citizens.
The mission was led by Team Captain Colonel Somveer Singh Dabas, alongside Chief Officer Ranjit Singh, a Lady NCC Officer, and five Army instructors, who actively participated as cyclists.
Colonel Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, expressed immense pride in LCPL Sumit Kumar’s achievement, noting that such accomplishments highlight the strong values of discipline and dedication the university upholds. Dr. Mittal added that LPU stands firm in its vision of shaping future leaders who will contribute to the nation’s progress and glory.
Sumit Kumar’s participation in this significant event exemplifies his dedication and commitment to the values upheld by the NCC. His involvement in this challenging journey reflects the perseverance and discipline that the university instils in its cadets.
