Principals meet for the implementation of National Education Policy-2020 w.e.f. the session 2023-2024 by Panjab University, Chandigarh, was held today.
Chandigarh, April 20, 2023: Principals meet for the implementation of National Education Policy-2020 w.e.f. the session 2023-2024 by Panjab University, Chandigarh, was held today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig at Rajiv Gandhi College Bhawan, Panjab University, Chandigarh in the presence of Prof. Rumina Sethi, Dean University Instruction, Prof. Harsh Nayyar, Director R&D, Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Professor Anil Monga and Prof. Latika Sharma, Coordinator, NEP-2022 and Deans of various faculties. The interactive session was attended by Principals of 110 colleges affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh.
While addressing Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig informed the Principals that Panjab University is in the process to implement the National Education Policy-2020 from the ensuing session 2023-2024. NEP Cell has been established at Panjab University and they are making efforts to prepare the regulations of NEP-2020 at the earliest. Threadbare discussions were held on the National Education Policy, its objectives, curriculum, mode of admissions, operational details, synchronization of general education with skill and vocational education, academic bank of credits etc.
Professor Latika Sharma gave detailed presentation on various aspects. The interactive discussions on the queries raised by the Principals were answered by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, DUI, Director R&D and NEP Coordinator. The Dean College Development Council appreciated the concerns and eagerness shown by various principals and their commitment for its implementation from the next session. However, it was informed by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig that further sessions for more elaboration will be held so as to facilitate the implementation of the policy. It was informed that there have been very minimal changes recommended by the respective Board of Studies for first two semesters so as to accommodate the hindrances for new change.
While delivering concluding remarks, it was informed by the Dean University Instruction Prof. Rumina Sethi that she is keenly making efforts for preparation of various academic regulations and the same shall be shared with the principals for their valuable inputs. Prof. Harsh Nayyar, Director, R&D intimated that Panjab University has finalized the Ph.D. guidelines. Research Centers shall be established in various districts as per UGC guidelines. Answering the queries, Prof. Renu Vig, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor informed during discussions that NEP shall not be implemented for education colleges till they get the guidelines from NCTE. Further, it was informed that the law courses 3/5 years, only the choice based credit system is being introduced.
Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Dean College Development Council, appreciated the involvement of Principals and assured that many interactive sessions will be held before the start of next session.
