Jalandhar: Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Autonomous & Heritage Institution, Jalandhar was awarded for excellent contribution to the society through social work during the district level Republic Day celebration. She was bestowed the award by Mr Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Minister of Jails during district level Republic Day celebration in Guru Gobind Singh Stadium. Deputy Commissioner, Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja were also present on the occasion.
It is worth a mention here that Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi has made a colossal contribution to the social causes and reforms in education as the Principal of KMV for more than 11 years now and has ensured the participation of the institution in all the social initiatives & programmes introduced by the government & civil administration. Under Women Empowerment Cell 3500 women who belong to the underprivileged society and are not the students of KMV have been imparted Skill Development training. Prof. Atima ensures that women trained under Women Empowerment Cell stand on their feet and presently they are running their boutiques, beauty salons, computer centres et al and are capable of providing employability to others. Many projects for rural environmental and important social issues have been her passion and forte. As member and Senior Office holder of Army Wives Welfare Association, she has worked in far flung border areas in North East for empowering women and children and giving Vocational training for health issues as well. No wonder then that she has been richly awarded and honored at various national & international platforms including Best Research Content Award by Harvard University, USA. An alumna of Harvard University, USA, Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi maintained that Management & Leadership in Education Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education, USA and other programs like Advancement Leadership Program at Harvard University, USA, Project titled “Including Ourselves in the Change Equation: Personal Learning for Organizational Growth”, completed with Harvard University, USA have played a pivotal role helping her contribute substantially to the field of higher education. It is worth a mention here that Prof. Atima’s vision, commitment and dedication has resulted in making KMV the first and only Women College of Punjab to be awarded Autonomous status. Autonomy helps to improve the quality of education and uplift academic standards towards excellence. It has made KMV join higher league of colleges. New age innovative job-oriented programs with focus on practical training and skill development have also been introduced by Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Such is her dynamism that she was instrumental in making KMV the first college under GNDU to be awarded Kaushal Kendra of UGC, MHRD, Govt. of India. Under this 10 B.Voc and M.Voc courses are successfully empowering young women and providing them employability. KMV has also been bestowed the Heritage Status by MHRD, Govt. of India under her able leadership. The much coveted prestigious status has been given to only 19 institutions across India. The Award of Star Status, FIST Grant, Status of College with Potential for Excellence-Phase II, A Grade by NAAC, Collaborations & tie-ups with acclaimed US universities like Boston University, Chatham & Lesley and other European countries, introducing School of Communications in which Spoken English and Foreign languages are taught by native teachers, School for Personality Development, School for Competitive Exams, Foundation Program, Moral Science classes and many other innovative programs go to her credit. KMV, under her leadership, is acting as a lighthouse and role model for many other institutions in the country.
