Chandigarh, December 2, 2024: Professor Gaurav Verma of Chemical Engineering & Nanotechnology has assumed charge as the new Director of Central Instrumentation Laboratory (CIL/SAIF/UCIM) at Panjab University Chandigarh.
CIL is a DST supported advanced analytical instrumentation facility at PU, and is considered to be a top performer amongst all such facilities in India. It has state of the art analytical instruments like FESEM, HRTEM, NMR, SAXS, XRD housed at PU, with maximum users all over India. Prof. Verma has thanked the PU Vice Chancellor, Prof Renu Vig for entrusting him with this responsibility and credited his predecessors for the high stature, CIL has been accorded with by DST.
Notably Prof Verma was recently acclaimed in the Stanford top 2% Scientists List (2023), and is a CV Raman Fellow from MIT, Cambridge where he worked with Prof MS Strano in the field of Plant Nanobionics (2014-15). He was awarded the British Council Grant in 2022 and Nottingham Trent Science & Technology grant (2020-22). His research focuses on structure-property-application correlation of nanostructures.
Apart from 70 publications, his international book on Nanostructures (Elsevier) was published in July 2023. Awarded with ICC significant contribution to agriculture through nanotechnology, young scientist award (CHASCON 2012), many best paper awards at IITs, Indian Science Congress, Prof. Verma is instrumental in establishing a drone repair facility, starting initiatives for research scholars like CRIKC Shodh Samwad, and CRIKC igniting young minds for school students in UT. He is also the Coordinator of Chandigarh Region Innovation & Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC).
