Proud Moment for Punjab as first woman coach from state Saloni of Ludhiana becomes coach-cum-selector for National U-16 Girls Basketball teams
Ludhiana, May 10, 2022: Saloni who is working with District Ludhiana Sports Department and is on continuous deputation with Ludhiana Basketball Academy has been nominated by Basketball Federation of India as a national coach and selector for U-16 Women Basketball teams. Sports Department Punjab has allowed her to go to attend National Coaching Camp of the Indian U-16 Girls Team at Sree Jayaprakash Narayan National Youth Training Centre, Vidyanagar, Bangalore from 10th May - 22nd June 2022 in preparation for the FIBA U-16 Women Asian Championship 2022. She will accompany with selected team which will go to play in Jordan this June.
Saloni has been participating as a player in Punjab State and University team when she was a student and won laurels. She did diploma in sports coaching in Basketball from Subhash National Institute of Sports, Patiala and then did her BPEd.
R S Gill, President, PBA, Teja Singh Dhaliwal General Secretary, Yurinder Singh Hayer IPS (Retd.) Sr VP PBA, Darshan Singh Sandhu, VP PBA, Coaches-Rajinder Singh, Gurkirpal Singh, Jaipal Singh and the entire executive of District Basketball Association have congratulated Saloni.
Teja Singh Dhaliwal said that years of hardwork and talent of coach Saloni at LBA has ultimately been recognized by BFI and this is a proud moment for the state. He further said that the team coached by her has recently won Championship Gold at National Junior Women Basketball tournaments this January 2022. Punjab won this Gold after 29 years. In the current coaching program 4 girls players coached by her also reach at the camp.
