PSPCL charge Rs 57.04 lakh fine in 220 cases of theft and unauthorized use of electricity in a day
In the constant efforts to curb the menace of power thefts, the teams of different circles of Central Zone (Ludhiana) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), under the able guidance of Chief Engineer, Central Zone (Ludhiana) Er. Inderpal Singh carried out a special drive and conducted systematic checking in their respective areas on Saturday.
Ludhiana, September 24, 2023: In the constant efforts to curb the menace of power thefts, the teams of different circles of Central Zone (Ludhiana) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), under the able guidance of Chief Engineer, Central Zone (Ludhiana) Er. Inderpal Singh carried out a special drive and conducted systematic checking in their respective areas on Saturday.
During the drive, the teams checked as many as 4092 connections, including 127 connections in East Circle, 1594 connections in West Circle, 844 connections in Sub-urban Circle and 1527 connections in Khanna circle.
The Chief Engineer shared that during the check, the teams detected a total of 220 cases including 78 cases of power thefts, 6 cases of unauthorized use of electricity (UUE) and 136 cases of unauthorized extension (UE) and others. The total fine charged by the teams in these 220 cases was Rs 57.04 lakhs.
Of 220 cases, 94 were detected from suburban circle, followed by 73 from Khanna circle, 42 from west circle and 11 from East circle.
During the drive, maximum connections were checked in West circle — 1594 of which 469 were alone checked in Aggar Nagar division with the special efforts of Executive Engineer (Aggar Nagar) Daljeet Singh.
Er. Inderpal Singh said that the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and power minister Harbhajan Singh ETO is committed to control the menace of power theft in the state and there are clear instructions from CMD Er. Baldev Singh Sran and Director Distribution DPS Grewal to take strict action against the consumers using illegal connections to end the power theft menace in the state.
He added that the department wants to curb the menace of power thefts to provide uninterrupted supply to its consumers. He said that the drive will be intensified and he warned of stringent action against consumers found violating power consumption norms.
