Ludhiana, May 11,2023: In order to save groundwater level, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has started promoting the ‘Pani Bachao, Paisa Kamao’ scheme among the farmers ahead of Kharif season.


Today, during Dooji (second) Sarkar –Kisan Milni which kicked off at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, the PSPCL had put up a stall and made the farmers, especially the zimmidars, aware about the benefits of the Pani Bachao, Paisa Kamao’ scheme and urged farmers to get an automatic meter reader system (AMR) installed at the tubewell to measure the amount of power consumed in the operation of the tubewell. The AMR will be installed at free of cost.

During the doosri Kisan Milni at the Punjab Agricultural University, the duties of the senior XEN level officials of the operational department were deputed at the 11 stalls to get the feedback from farmers regarding the power supply.

In a message Punjab power minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, said that the Punjab Government led by CM Bhagwant  Mann has a vision to make ‘Rangla Punjab’ and for this conservation of natural resources is important. CM Bhagwant  Mann always invokes Guru Nanak’s message of "Pawan Guru Paani Pita Mata Dharat Mahat  (air is our teacher, water our father, and the great earth our mother)” during his speeches to highlight the importance of natural resources. Therefore, the Punjab government has started encouraging farmers to adopt the ‘Pani Bachao, Paisa Kamao’ scheme.


Er.S.R .Vashishat chief engineer distribution central zone  PSPCL said that this scheme will not only help in saving water but farmers are also getting a chance to earn money. The farmers will be receiving ₹4 per unit on the energy saved. The scheme is beneficial for the farmers having their pump connections with feeders including — Bambiwal, Nawajipur, Dhanoa, Sunderpura, Haripur and Kharora feeder.


The Chief Engineer (Central Zone Ludhiana) SR Vashishat and Chief Engineer (Technical Audit) Satinder Sharma welcomed the farmers to the Dooji Sarkar-Kisan Milni.

Er. SR Vashishat said that to avail the benefit, the power connection should be in the name of the farmer and the farmers have to submit an enrollment form along with a copy of Aadhaar Card and copy of Bank Pass Book.

He said that under this scheme, a limit of power consumption has been fixed by the department for both Kharif and Rabi season and if consumption is below the fixed limit, the farmers will get Rs 4 per unit saved.

Besides, the department also gave various suggestions to the farmers in order to avoid fire incidents in the fields. Further, the PSPCL also promoted the use of digital modes for paying power bills and registration of supply related complaints etc.
