PU Botany Department to be Lead Centre for International Project

Chandigarh,  November 15, 2014: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh the Botany Department would be a lead centre for a prestigious International project on Environmental effects of food crops. The project was awarded through a global competition to Prof. Harsh Nayyar by Consultative group of International Agricultural Research, funded by Food and Agricultural Organisation, Italy and United National Developmental Program.

The partner institutions would be International Crop Research Institute for Semi-arid Tropics and ICRISAT, Hyderabad and International Centre for Agricultural Research in dryareas, Morocco.

These organisations would jointly work on mechanisms existing in the edible pulses related to extreme environment such as drought and high temperature and develop appropriate strategies to improve stress tolerance of these food crops growing in Asian and African region.
