PU Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies observed Martyrs’ Day
The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies observed on Tuesday as Martyrs’ Day. Lalit Jain (IAS), Census and Registration, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest on this occasion. He delivered a Special Lecture on the ‘My Understanding of Gandhian & His Way of Life’ on this occasion. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson, Commission of Protection of Child Rights, Govt. of India, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour.
Chandigarh, January 30, 2024: The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies observed on Tuesday as Martyrs’ Day. Lalit Jain (IAS), Census and Registration, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest on this occasion. He delivered a Special Lecture on the ‘My Understanding of Gandhian & His Way of Life’ on this occasion. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson, Commission of Protection of Child Rights, Govt. of India, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour.
In the beginning, the dignitaries paid rich tributes and homage to all the martyrs of the Country. Professor Simrit Khalon, Dean of Students Welfare (DSW), Panjab University, in her Presidential address, thanked our Chief Guest along with the other guests and proceeded to highlight the importance of the day by explaining the history of the martyrs and their contribution in the Indian freedom struggle. At 11:00 a.m., two minutes’ silence was observed by the audience to pay respect to the martyrs. Dr. Seema Malhotra introduced all the dignitaries to the audience also informed everybody about the working and achievements of the Department.
Lalit Jain (IAS) in his lecture “My Understanding of Gandhi & His Way of Life” shared his experiences how he understood Gandhi’s thought and highlighted the importance of non-violence in our life in the present context.
The Chief Guest with the guests of the function released a book authored by Dr. Ashu Pasricha and Sumit entitled “Navigating the Dragon’s Reach: India’s Response to China’s Expanding Influence in the Indian Ocean”
Guest of Honour, Shipra focused her talk on concept of Sarvodaya and narrated story on love towards nature and humanity relating to child protection and rights.
Professor Simrit Kahlon emphasised on the importance of dialogue being the best way for the conflict management and conflict resolution peacefully.
The faculty members, research scholars, students and members of the staff of the Gandhian and Peace Studies Department as well as faculty members, staff and students from other Departments of the University attended the Commemoration of Martyrs’ Day. The Chairperson of the Department, Dr. Ashu Pasricha extended a warm thanks to all the participants, and all those who attended the function and concluded with the quotation “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”.
