The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully organized special lectures on “Digital Transition and Media & Information Literacy” today.
Chandigarh, January 31, 2023: The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully organized special lectures on “Digital Transition and Media & Information Literacy” today.
Dr. Shiv Kumar, Chairperson of the department welcomed resource person and participants. Prof. Harinder Pal Singh from Department of Library and Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala (Punjab) was Resource Person.
Prof. Kalra highlighted the significance of Digital Transition and Media & Information Literacy. The concept of Media and Information Literacy includes Information Literacy, Media Literacy and New Media Literacy, Network Literacy, Digital Literacy, Computer Literacy, IT /ICT Literacy, and other similar literacies. He also pointed out that the concept extends beyond communication and information technologies to encompass learning, critical thinking, and interpretative skills across and beyond professional and educational boundaries. Media and Information Literacy includes all types of information resources: oral, print, and digital. He suggested that instead of waiting for digital systems to become perfect/ideal, we have to develop skills and competencies among ‘prosumers’ of digital information, to be media and information literate, to use these systems efficiently and effectively. He also delivered a talk on “Open Access journals and Predatory Publications”. At the end, Dr. Khushpreet Singh Brar, presented vote of thanks.
