PU hosted 500 students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds of Punjab in Prof.R.C.Paul Auditorium, Department of Chemistry
Chandigarh, December 10, 2022: Panjab University hosted 500 students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds of Punjab in Prof.R.C.Paul Auditorium, Department of Chemistry. The event was presided over by Prof.Y. P. Verma, Registrar,Panjab University and coordinated by Dr.Rohit Kumar Sharma, Director Youth Welfare. This event was organized with support of ‘Hookran Brothers’ who are helping run educational oriented programs from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh since 2001. Their family has been running seven initiatives under the ‘Awareness mission society’.
On this occasion, the students were exposed to video screenings regarding career opportunities in Panjab University and inspirational messages by research scholars and students of the university. Prof.Verma highlighted the role of Panjab University for acting as a role model institution for young students in the region and emphazised that the university facilities are always open for school students and such inspirational events are welcome to be organized in university as it is important for an organization of higher education to serve the society by reaching out and giving direction to young minds.
Dr.Rohit K. Sharma lauded the participation of students as this programme. The participating students were impressed and elated as it was an opportunity for them to visit Panjab University, listen to stalwarts and understand what they can do with their careers going ahead in life. One of the aims of such an event is to check the school drop-out rate of students by exposing them to higher education opportunities.
