The Department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Indian National Science Academy (Chandigarh Chapter) today organised a distinguished  lecture on "Wildlife Conservation Scenario in India".

Chandigarh, February 6, 2025: The Department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Indian National Science Academy (Chandigarh Chapter) today organised a distinguished  lecture on "Wildlife Conservation Scenario in India". 

Eminent scientist in the field of animal behaviour and ecology from the University of Mysore Prof. Mewa Singh delivered the lecture. Former Vice chancellor of Panjab University, Prof. R.C. Sobti presided over the lecture.

Prof. Mewa Singh captivated the audience with his extensive research on three primate species lion-tailed macaques, bonnet macaques, and slender loris that play a crucial role in India's forest ecosystems. His pioneering work has contributed significantly to the scientific understanding of these species and has influenced their conservation policies by Governments of different states of India.

The event was graced by the presence of many distinguished guests, including, former Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof. Arun K. Grover, Prof Sukhbir Kaur, Prof Sanjeev Puri, Prof. M.C. Sidhu, and several other eminent scientists of tricity. Their participation added immense value to the discussion, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts in wildlife conservation.

Earlier, the session was warmly welcomed by the Chairperson Dr Ravinder Kumar and hosted by Dr. Indu Sharma. Faculty members, research scholars, and students enthusiastically participated in an interactive discussion with Prof. Mewa Singh, further enriching the academic exchange.
