Chandigarh, February 4, 2025: Panjab University (PU) today organised a one-day workshop on “Stress Management: Strategies, Opportunities, and Outcomes” at PU-ISSER. 

The workshop, organised by the PU Institute of Social Science Education and Research (ISSER) in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh, focused on effective strategies for managing stress in academic and professional settings.

Prof. Akshay Anand, Department of Neurology, PGI, and Dr. K.K. Soni, Department of Psychiatry, were the esteemed invited speakers, while PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma presided over the workshop as the Chief Guest. The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Anju Suri, Coordinator of ISSER, and Prof. Rakesh Malik, Director of the Directorate of Sports, PU.

The workshop saw active participation from around 100 students and research scholars from PU-ISSER and other departments. The Workshop was highly educative and enlightening, teaching and training the approaches and coping mechanisms to deal effectively with stress and become effective. 

Addressing the audience, Prof. Y.P. Verma emphasised the importance of dedicated strategies and supportive relationships in stress management. He encouraged individuals to seek guidance and adopt a proactive approach toward mental well-being.

Dr. K.K. Soni in his address emphasised on the need to organise regular session of
workshop, seminars etc. to educate all about harmful effects of stress on one’s life.
Stress is caused due to physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms, he added. For managing the stress, he suggested the approach of alter, avoid, adept, and accept. 

Professor Akshay Anand dilated on the regular evaluation process through assessment and surveys to check level of stress, and stress-reducing environs for better work-place and relaxed-healthier life-style. 

The participants of the Workshop were trained in certain exercises to keep body & mind in balance for healthier and stress reduces life-style. The participants also practiced Yoga in the session to relieve the stress. 

Earlier, Prof. Rakesh Malik set the tone for the session by welcoming the guests and highlighting the significance of stress management in academic institutions. He emphasised the impact of stress on students, faculty, and staff, stressing the importance of adopting the right approach to manage it effectively.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Vishav Bakshi, the organizing secretary and guest faculty at ISSER, on behalf of Prof. Anju Suri.
