PU Leapfold jump in Times Ranking- No 4 in country
Last year Panjab University was ranked 16th in India in the same ranking
Chandigarh: Times Higher Education has released its 2021 world ranking of the Universities today. This year Panjab University has shown tremendous improvement in its ranking over the last three years. While in Global scenario, it is bracketed in the 601-800 segment like last year but amongst the Indian Universities, it is ranked 4th this year. Last year Panjab University was ranked 16th in India in the same ranking.
The world ranking is generated from five indicators which represent key areas in higher education excellence. These are Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income and International Outlook. Panjab University has shown improvement in its overall score which is now in the bracket of 30.2-36.3 from the last year bracket of 28.3-35.2. The increase in scores are mainly due to higher appraisal in Teaching and Research criterion. However PU has lost significantly in citations. there is a margnal decrease in Industry Income and International Outlook scores as well. However the reasons to cheer with PU this year is that infact amongst the Universities in the country, PU is ranked at the top since the other three institutes over PU this year are central technical institutes like Indian Institute of Science and IIT's at Ropar and Indore. PU is ranked after these three institutes beating other IIT's and all other Indian Universities. Prof Raj Kumar expressed his pleasure over PU performance in THE rankings and gave the entire credit to the faculty , students and other stakeholders of the University. he said that ' PU is now making rapid strides towards excellence. Recently in ARIIA ranking also we were ranked no 2 in the country and now in Times ranking we are ranked no 4 . I am conscious of the fact that this been primarily due to infusion of Innovation and start-up culture in the university over the last two years , alongside I am aware that to be competitive globally we have to now also focus on our Industry Income and International outlook of the university. i am happy to inform that we are now receiving a tremendous interest from overseas students and in due course of time we shall improve in these parameters too. these things take time, but I am very satisfied over our performance.
Dr Ashish Jain, Director IQAC expressed his happiness on PU performance. he said that " The results are on expected lines, as we did indepth survey this time of the data parameters and with the innovation buzz at the University, our research output has increased. Our faculty deserves all the credit for being so productive and ensuring that they walk the talk with their students.
Dr Jain further said that though we are celebrating the accolades of ARIIA and Times rankings, but at the same time we are working on our grey spots also, so that we make a mark globally too. I am confident with the present pace, that should happen soon.
