The department of library and information science in collaboration with central placement cell, Panjab University, Chandigarh today organised a lecture regarding the topic “Competencies and skills of Library Professionals for the placement in today’s competitive world”.

Chandigarh September 19, 2024: The department of library and information science in collaboration with central placement cell, Panjab University, Chandigarh today organised a lecture regarding the topic “Competencies and skills of Library Professionals for the placement in today’s competitive world”. 


The event was initiated by Chairperson of the department, Prof Rupak Chakravarty who extended a formal welcome to the esteemed chief guests Dr. Rajesh Kumar Jhamb and Prof Meena Sharma. 


Dr. Rajesh Kumar discussed the competencies and skills of library professionals. The students of department were enlightened with various insights into how to expertise themselves for their individual growth. He discussed about different topics including communication skills, SWOC analysis, critical thinking, soft skills, interoperability and many more which aimed to induce the leadership skills in library science students. He also throw lights on management of PESTLE (Political, Economic, Sociological, Technological, Legal and Environmental) approach and made the students aware about many more factors including leadership qualities, decision making, patience etc. under the term “management practices”. 


Dr. Rajesh Kumar gave an overview of skill development by enhancing knowledge throughout all the fields. A formal interaction was done between the students and the resource person. He also shared his valuable experiences with the audiences. 


Dr. Rajesh Kumar made students aware about the value of ‘competency’ for library professionals.
