PU Pharmaceutical Sciences Oration-2014

Chandigarh: “The Panjab University Pharmaceutical Sciences Oration-2023” on the theme “Green Chemistry, sustainability and need of the pharma industry” was held at the University Law Auditorium in the University Campus on Thursday. 

Padma Shri Prof. G D Yadav, National Science Chair, SERB, DST GOI, Emeritus Professor of Eminence and J C Bose National Fellow delivered the oration. Professor Yadav gave an enlightening and interactive talk on the complexities and challenges of the pharmaceutical industry and he also touched upon the potential of creating wealth from waste and development of carbon zero economy. He emphasised on various green chemistry approaches for generating fuel by the utilisation of water as a source of green hydrogen and carbon dioxide for preparing chemicals. He also sensitised the gathering on potential consequences of global warming and importance of adopting green chemistry approaches to prevent damage to environment. He stressed a lot on hard work and dedication for a successful scientific career. Prof. Yadav also advised the students and young pharma scientists to inculcate a positive mind-set for success in life and also quoted that failure is temporary and success is autocatalytic. 

Prof. Anil Kumar, Chairperson University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences highlighted the genesis of Panjab University Pharmaceutical Sciences Oration. Prof. Harsh Nayyar, Director Research and Development Cell, Panjab University presided over the function. He appreciated the research contributions of University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and its role in the growth of Panjab University.  Professor Kanwaljit Chopra, Convener of the event introduced the Orator and his antecedents in multi-disciplinary domains of engineering sciences. She stated that Professor Yadav is one of the topmost, highly prolific, & accomplished engineering-scientists in India. He is recipient of prestigious international awards as an academician, researcher and innovator, for his seminal contributions to education, research and innovation in Green Chemistry and Engineering, Catalysis, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Energy Engineering, Development of Clean and Green Technologies. He has published 551 original research papers, 121 granted national and PCT patents.

Professor Arun Grover, former VC Panjab University, Prof. V K Rattan and senior faculty of Panjab University and CRIKC institutes graced the occasion.
