Chandigarh, February 12, 2025: Prof. Jyoti Rattan, Professor of Law in the Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Honorary Director of the PU Centre for IAS & Other Competitive Examinations, today presented her research paper on Data Privacy and Artificial Intelligence at the IIAS-DARPG India Conference 2025 held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The prestigious international conference is jointly organised by IIAS and the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India. Earlier, Dr. Rattan had presented papers at IIAS world conferences held in Seoul, South Korea, Abu Dhabi, and Switzerland, in addition to the World Conferences of the European Group of Public Administration (EGPA) in various countries.

Presenting her research paper, Dr. Rattan highlighted that with the increasing use of social media and the internet, the number of cyber-crime victims is also rising daily in every country, including India. She pointed out that people are genuinely concerned about the safety and security of their online personal data.

Discussing the safety of netizens in India in the rapidly growing digital space, Dr. Rattan explained both international and national laws, as well as the legal protection available in India. She also mentioned that the use of artificial intelligence is growing, sometimes helping cyber criminals. She noted that India has been a bit late in addressing these issues but praised the recent enactment of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), aimed at protecting citizens from cybercrimes and online frauds.

Apart from teaching and research, Dr. Jyoti Rattan is an internationally acclaimed and established author, and a much sought-after Chair, keynote speaker, and expert panellist. She has written 20 books in wide-ranging legal fields, including International Law, Cyber Laws, Information Technology & Artificial Intelligence (with a foreword written by the Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court, New Delhi), Intellectual Property Rights, Taxation Laws, Company Law, Right to Information (RTI), Law of Contract, and Women and Law.

In 2023, for India's G20 Presidency, Dr. Rattan, as the PU G20 Nodal Officer, organised international and national seminars in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. On 5 December 2024, she gave a guest lecture at the Western Sydney University School of Law, Sydney, Australia, on Technology, Innovation, and the Law.

Dr. Rattan also delivered a public lecture at the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), New Delhi, in 2022 on the Right to Be Forgotten. She was an expert panellist at the National Commission for Women’s (NCW) final law review consultation on “The Rights of Women under Property Laws” at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in 2024, and at the DST Interactive Dialogue on “India’s Intellectual Property Ecosystem” in 2024.
