PU School of Communication Studies Hosts Filmmaker Rahul Rawail
The School of Communication Studies, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, today hosted eminent filmmaker Rahul Rawail for a special event titled ‘Masterclass in Cinema’.

Chandigarh April 28, 2025: The School of Communication Studies, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, today hosted eminent filmmaker Rahul Rawail for a special event titled ‘Masterclass in Cinema’.
Best known for directing films like Betaab, Love Story, and Arjun, among many others, Mr. Rawail spoke to an enthusiastic audience of aspiring journalists and filmmakers.
During the interactive session, Rawail touched upon various aspects of filmmaking, such as authenticity in direction, opportunities and challenges with OTT platforms, and the rise of artificial intelligence. When asked about the impact of generative AI on the film industry, he said, "It depends on how we use it. We can't rely on AI to think of ideas and we need to retain human touch." Rawail specified that true direction begins with a filmmaker’s own essence. He urged budding journalists and film enthusiasts to embrace their individuality.
Rawail also addressed the monumental shift that smartphone technology has brought to the film industry, particularly with the rise of mobile filmmaking. He mentioned movies being made in vertical dimensions as a new trend.
During the session, he also shared personal anecdotes about working as an assistant to renowned Indian actor and director Raj Kapoor. The event also featured the screening of a montage, prepared by the students of the School of Communication Studies, showcasing the life, works, and the legacy of Rahul Rawail.
