Chandigarh, May 28, 2016: Panjab University (PU) Syndicate has formed a committee to examine the 18 different Syndicate agenda items regarding the temporary extension of affiliation to various colleges in PU.

The Syndicate today referred the items to the committee for consideration.

The nine member committee of PU Syndicate members would be headed by PU Syndicate member Shri Ashok Goyal. PU Syndicate members Professor Navdeep Goyal, Dr. Ajay Ranga, Dr. Balbir Chand Josan, Dr. I.S. Sandhu, Shri Harpreet Singh Dua, Dr.Surinder Singh Sangha, Dr. Dayal Pratap Singh Randhawa and Shri Raghbir Dayal would be the members of the committee. PU Syndicate member Shri Ashok Goyal would also head another committee to consider the promotion policy for teaching faculty at PU Dental College.

The PU Syndicate approved the recommendations of the Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM). The Syndicate approved the quota for the Deputy Registrars (DRs) as per which 25 percent posts would be filled up by promotion on the basis of seniority cum merit amongst in-service Assistant Registrars; 25 percent posts of DRs would be filled up through the selection from the existing PU staff and 50 percent of the posts would be filled up through the open selection in which the PU staff would also be eligible to apply and compete.

The PU Syndicate approved the proposal for allowing the synopsis presentation of research scholars via video conferencing (Skype). The formulation of a policy would immensely benefit a large number of PU research scholars working abroad on various collaborative projects. Earlier, there was no rule for holding the synopsis presentation in the research degree committee (RDC) meeting for the Ph.D students via video conferencing.

The PU Syndicate approved the amendments/rate revision for the handbook for hostel rules for PU SS Giri Regional Centre, Bajwara, Hoshiarpur and Amrita Shergil Girl’s Hostel PURC, Ludhiana for the session 2016-17.

The PU Syndicate approved the proposal in the admission form regarding donating the organs/eyes by college students.

The PU Syndicate approved the proposal for 10 percent increase in rent/licence fee of campus houses at Chandigarh, Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana. The rates of water charges have been increased by 30 percent in commensuration with the increase by the UT Administration.

The PU Syndicate also approved the institution of “Signature Award Gold Medal” and the draft agreement with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).

The Syndicate welcomed and approved the proposal for instituting the “Professor Gurdev Singh Gosal Award for Essay on Geographic Thought”. The competition would be open for all the PG Students of PU; Punjabi University, Patiala; GNDU; Himachal Pradesh University; Jammu University and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. The award would carry cash prize of Rs. 11 thousand and a certificate.

The Syndicate approved the proposal to extend the benefits of reservation to the grandsons/granddaughters of riot victims for the admissions under the Riot Victim category for the session 2016-17. Earlier, the sons/ daughters/ husband/wife/brothers/sisters of person killed/incapacitated in November, 1984 riots and terrorist violence in Punjab and Chandigarh were entitled for the quota.

PU Syndicate approved the proposal regarding reservation not less than 3 percent of seats to the persons with disabilities in admission in higher educational courses such as M.Phil. and Ph.D.

The Syndicate meeting was adjourned for tomorrow for considering the pending agenda items.
