Chandigarh, January 08, 2025: Panjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig had a meeting with State Commissioner Persons with Disabilities Chandigarh Madhavi Kataria IAS (Retrd.) along with the PU Centre for Social Work Chairperson Prof. Monica Munjial Singh and PU Department of Laws Chairperson Prof. Vandana A Kumar. 

The meeting was held to discuss about the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that is sought to be signed between Panjab University and State Commissioner Persons with Disabilities (SCPD), U.T Chandigarh. 

During the discussions it was agreed that joining hands of various departments of Panjab University and the Office of State Commissioner PwD would be a good move and help in spreading awareness about the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPwD) 2016 which has wide ranging provisions for the wellbeing and empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.  

Various activities as may be undertaken jointly were discussed which would provide good exposure and practical learning to the students, enhance the stakeholders’ knowledge about the provisions of the Act and the redressal of grievances through the office of SCPD. Thus the proposed MoU would be a significant step towards creating better ECO System for Persons with Disability, Students, faculty and administrative staff of Panjab University and society at large.

The draft memorandum shall shortly be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor for her consideration for placing before the competent committee for approval.
