PU VC releases animal lovers association calendar
Association is working for welfare of animals
Chandigarh: Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh released the Calendar of Animal Lovers Association (ALA) for the year 2020, here today and congratulated the members of the Association for putting up the great work on voluntary basis. The calendar was presented to him by Ms Nandini Kakar, Dr Deepak Sharma from the organisation and Dr Gaurav Gaur from Panjab University, Chandigarh at the PU campus.
While extending his greetings to Animal Lovers Association, PU VC Prof. Raj Kumar solicited support from everyone to address the gaps for the betterment of the society as well as animals. He congratulated Ms Nandini Kakar, General Secretary, Animal Lovers Association and Dr Deepak Sharma, Vice President, of the organisation and Guest Faculty working with Department of Public Administration, Panjab University for undertaking the pertinent and neglected cause of welfare of community animals.
Animal Lovers Association (ALA) is a registered, non-profit, self funded organization working for the welfare of animals. The managing committee comprises of PU Alumni, members of varied professions and run an animal shelter in Village Soonk, District Mohali. The shelter houses sick and injured small as well as large animals that include cows, bulls, donkeys, horses, dogs, birds.
The shelter is receiving continuous support from Dr Gaurav Gaur, Assistant Professor, Centre for Social Work and NSS programme officer , Panjab University and his team of enthusiastic volunteers. He has supervised two projects namely Dog population census in Panjab University and Phasing out of horse carts in Chandigarh under his able guidance.
