Pune gets its First NSDC International Skill Centre
In a momentous development for the youth of the state, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) International and the Government of Maharashtra, have set up an international skill centre in Pune for empowering youth and providing them global job opportunities.
Pune, August 31, 2024: In a momentous development for the youth of the state, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) International and the Government of Maharashtra, have set up an international skill centre in Pune for empowering youth and providing them global job opportunities.
NSDC International Skill Centre located in Model Colony, Pune, was inaugurated today in the presence of Deepak Kesarkar, Minister for School Education & Marathi Language, Government of Maharashtra, Chandrakant Patil, MLA and Minister of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, Dr Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Chairperson of Maharashtra Legislative Council, Nitin Kapoor, Vice President of NSDC.
Talking about NSDC International Skill Centre, Murlidhar Mohol, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, while inaugurating the job fair at Modern College Pune, lauded NSDC’s efforts towards upskilling the students. He added “The students should reap maximum benefits out of the skill development program being imparted by the centre in Pune.”
After inaugurating the centre, Deepak Kesarkar, Minister for School Education & Marathi Language, Government of Maharashtra, emphasized the centre's potential impact, stating, “The opening of this centre represents a significant opportunity for Pune, enhancing its reputation as the ‘Oxford of the East’. With India’s growing youth population, we are poised to offer skilled labor to meet global demands. Our goal from here is to upskill 100,000 students very soon and contribute to making Maharashtra and India a leading skilled service force, globally.”
Chandrakant Patil, Minister of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, saying, “Our goal now is to expand this effort to other regions like Nagpur, Kolhapur, and Amravati, addressing the employment needs of Maharashtra’s youth. With Germany’s demand for skilled workers, our trained youth can fill this gap. This centre in Pune, is a step towards meeting global employment needs and empowering our youth to achieve their aspirations.”
Nitin Kapoor, Vice President of NSDC, said, “We are thankful to the Government of Maharashtra for their support to us in establishing the NSDC International Skill Centre in a very short span of time.” He further added “Our commitment is to empower the youth of Maharashtra with the necessary skill set; thus, enabling them explore career opportunities at global scale.”
This collaboration marks a significant step towards preparing Maharashtra's workforce for global opportunities. By leveraging NSDC International's extensive global network and the state's robust educational infrastructure, the partnership aims to create a new paradigm in skill development and international employment.
The Government of Maharashtra has committed to providing basic infrastructure, including classrooms, to set up these centres. These state-of-the-art facilities will offer specialized training in high-demand sectors such as Hospitality, Beauty & Wellness, Health Sector, and Language Labs. This strategic focus on key industries aligns perfectly with global employment trends, ensuring that Pune’s youth are equipped with skills that are in high demand worldwide.
NSDC International will play a pivotal role in aggregating demand from international employers across the globe. This unique approach will provide Maharashtra's skilled workforce with unprecedented access to global job markets. To further enhance the employability of candidates in the international arena, the partnership will facilitate international certification for both language and domain skills. This dual certification approach will significantly boost the credibility and marketability of Maharashtra's workforce in the global job market.
