Punjab Breaking News: England starts winning start by defeating Sweden in 5th Kabaddi World Cup 2014

Gurdaspur, December 7, 2014: England men team started off with a winning start by defeating Sweden 51-32 on the second day of Fifth Kabaddi World Cup 2014, here today. Although England defeated Sweden, but it was the Sweden team which won the spectator's hearts as they have been participating in the fifth edition of Fifth Kabaddi World Cup 2014 for the first time. With this win, England is now topping Pool "A".
England team started the match with lead since beginning of the match which led to their victory in the end. By Half time, the England team was leading by 24-18. Raiders Gurchetan of England team scored five, while Avtar Singh Bal and Jaskaran Singh won 4 points each.
Out of stoppers, Baljit Singh scored seven, Amandeep Johal scored four and Sandeep scored two points. Out of Sweden raiders, Parminder Singh scored six and Mandeep Singh scored five points, while stoppers Ajay Deep Singh and Kuljinder Singh scored five and three points respectively.
The matches of Fifth Kabaddi World Cup 2014 today started formally in the grounds of Government College, Gurdaspur. Chief Parliamentary Secretary Gurbachan Singh Baabbehali was the chief guest on the occasion.
While addressing the spectators, Babbehali said that it is a matter of great pride that it is due to the efforts of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal that our mother sport Kabaddi has reached international level. He said that day is not far that Kabaddi would be part of Commonwealth, Asian and Olympic games. He thanked the CM for organising matches of Kabaddi World Cup in Gurdaspur.
Babbehali said that during the Fifth Kabaddi World Cup 2014, a total of 19 teams are participating out of which 11 are competing in men section while eight in women section. He said that the winner of men section would get a prize of Rs 2 crore, first runners up Rs 1 crore and second runners up Rs 51 lakh. Similarly, the winner of women section would get a prize money of Rs 1 crore, first runners up Rs 51 lakh and second runners up Rs 25 lakh.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Sports) Pawan Kumar Tinu said that the SAD-BJP government has recently given away cash prizes worth Rs 5.43 crore to winners of Asian and Commonwealth games.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Chief Parliamentary Secretary Des Raj Dhugga, former minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Chairman Ravi Karan Singh Kahlon, Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal, Chairman Sukhbir Singh Wahla, Sukhjinder Singh Langah, Director (Sports) Tajinder Singh Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur Dr Abhinav Trikha, SSP Gurdaspur Gurpreet Singh Toor, besides several others.
