Khanna: The Punjab Cabinet on Wednesday condoled the sad and untimely demise of legendary Punjabi folk singer Sardool Sikandar, with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announcing that his government will clear the deceased’s hospital dues of Rs 10 lakh.

Captain Amarinder announced the decision after cabinet minister Charanjit Singh Channi informed him that the deceased’s family had no money to pay the same. The chief minister also directed the health department to ensure that the private hospital creates no hassles in releasing Sardool’s body to his family due to non-payment of dues.

In a condolence resolution, the cabinet noted that with the demise of Sardool Sikandar, who passed away today, the nation had lost one of its best-known Punjabi singers and the void left behind by him will be impossible to fill. 

Earlier, the chief minister took to Twitter to express his shock at Sardool’s demise. He said that with Sardool’s death, the world of Punjabi music had been left poorer. He also extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and fans.

Chandigarh: BJP National General Secretary Tarun chugh today condoled the demise of popular Punjabi singer Sardul Sikandar and termed it as a huge loss to Punjab,  Punjabi and Punjabiyat.

In a statement Chugh lauded the outstanding contribution Sardul made as an ambassador of Punjabi culture and said in his passing away Punjab has lost a cultural jewel.

SADHU SINGH DHARAMSOT MOURNS PASSING AWAY OF LEGENDARY SINGER SARDOOL SIKANDER

CHANDIGARH: Welfare Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot on Wednesday expressed grief over the passing away of world-renowned Punjabi singer Sardool Sikander, who breathed his last today after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

In his condolence message, the Minister described Sikander as a great versatile singer, who would be ever remembered for his immense contribution to enrich Punjabi singing. The demise of legendary singer Sardool Sikander is an irreparable loss for singing and art fraternity, he added.

Dharamsot had personally gone to the private hospital where Sikander was admitted after he tested COVID positive last month. Sikander was born in village Kheri Naud Singh of Fatehgarh, and had migrated to Khanna in Ludhiana district nearly two decades ago. Sardool Sikander’s two brothers Gamdoor Aman and Bharbhoor Ali were residing in the village and elder brother and Sufi singer Gamdoor Aman passed away nearly two decades back while the younger brother and renowned player of the Tabla Ustad Bharbhoor Ali  passed away a year ago.
