PUNJAB CABINET MINISTER PA FACES DEFEAT

OVERALL ELECTIONS REMAINS PEACEFUL IN FEROZEPUR

Ferozepur, September 22, 2018: High level drama was witnessed during the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti polls results today. In a major upset, Nasib Singh Sandhu, PA of Cabinet Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi lost the Zila Parishad polls with the margin of 440 votes. Nasib is defeated by SAD candidate Shailender Singh. However, the Congress workers refused to accept their defeat and demanded recounting of the votes.

Meanwhile, the SAD candidate alleged that he is being harassed by the administration on the behest of Congress leaders. The SAD workers also held a protest infront of the counting centre at Ferozepur and in Mamdot also. Later, they blocked Ferozepur-Fazilka road near Village Khai Pheme Ki. However, the SAD candidate was declared winner during the late evening.

In another incident, Manpreet Kaur, independent candidate from Ferozeshah zone in Ghallkhurd block alleged that she was declared winner but the administration did not issue the certificate to her following which her supporters staged a dharna outside the counting centre at Panjab University Constituent College at Village Mohkam Khan Wala.

OVERALL CONGRESS CANDIDATE PERFORM WELL

Overall the candidates owing allegiance to ruling Congress party performed well in which the results have been declared till now. As per the declared results in Ferozepur Block, Paramjit won from Jhoke Harihar zone, Bohar Singh won from Bhawra Azam Shah zone, Parneet Kaur won from Mehma zone. (3 out of 4)

In Ghallkhurd block Simarjit Kaur won from Kot Karor Kalan zone, Parwinder Kaur from Sappanwali zone, Ravinder Singh from Toot zone, Sukhjinder Singh from Chander zone, Manpreet Singh from Naraingarh zone, Rajdeep Singh from Khawaja Khadak zone and Karamjit Kaur from Wada Bhai Ke zone won their seats while representing Congress. Only in Chakk Gurdial Singh zone, a SAD candidate Balwinder Kaur won the elections. (8 out of 16)

In Mamdot block, one Congress candidate Pritam Kaur won while from Jama Rakhaiya zone while SAD candidate Mahant Kaur won from Chakk Ghubai zone (2 out of 2).

THINGS REMAINED PEACEFUL

The counting for the results was started at 8.00 am at three counting centres at MLM Sr. Sec. School in Ferozepur Cantonment area, at Panjab University Constituent College at Village Mohkam Khan Wala and at Government Senior Secondary School in Mamdot. Though, some minor incidents took place during the counting between the supporters, overall things remained peaceful.
