Punjab CEO seeks remarks of Principal Secretary Home regarding complaints against police officers

Chandigarh, March 24, 2014: The Punjab Chief Electoral Officer has asked Principal Secretary (Home) to send his remarks regarding complaints against senior police officers as the earlier reports sent by ADGP/Election Cell were not found satisfactory by Election Commission of India.
Disclosing this here today, Raminder Singh, Additional Chief Electoral Officer said that the commission had received the complaints against Police Commissioner Ludhiana, IG/Intelligence, Bathinda and SSPs of Ferozepur, Mansa and Bathinda regarding MCC violations, on which the CEO had asked the Principal Secretary Home to get these enquired. He said that the reports received through ADGP/Election Cell were found not satisfactory as the complainants were not involved in enquiries. Taking the exception, the CEO has asked Principal Secretary Home to send his remarks on replies submitted by ADGP( election cell)
The Additional CEO further said that 18 expenditure and  !8 general besides 3 police observers were being sent to Punjab by ECI for Lok Sabha polls – 2014. He said that five expenditure sensitive constituencies namely Bathinda, Amritsar, Patiala, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur would have one each additional expenditure and general observer. He said that sensitive constituencies may be changed according to changing poll atmosphere. He informed that the ECI has categorically directed the no voter should have to walk more than two kms to cast his/her vote and if required, the DEO should change the polling booth as per the need. He said that each polling booth either be monitored by a micro observer, web casting, videography or still photography.
He said that ECI has issued notification regarding counting of votes on May 16, which would start at 8 am. He said that till date 1,40,130 licensed weapons have been deposited.
The Election Commission to facilitate the candidates for seeking different permissions has asked all DCs to ensure facilitation centre at every tehsil, district and constituency level to provide permission within 36 hours in a single window system.
