Submits memorandum to Pargat Singh seeking STF probe into 'drug menace'
Chandigarh, September 8 2021: Congress leader Damanvir Singh who is also son of ex jails minister Sarwan S Phillaur has submitted a memorandum to party General Secretary Pargat Singh at Punjab Congress Bhawan, Chandigarh. Damanvir through the memorandum has asked for a special task force (STF) probe into drug menace in Phillaur from where Damanavir Singh belongs and other parts of the state too.
“Pargat Singh listened to me patiently and agreed that there was a need for an STF probe to break the spine of drug cartels in Phillaur and the state,” Phillaur said after submitting the memorandum to Pargat Singh, General Secretary, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
It is noteworthy that Damanvir has also initiated a signature campaign by residents of Phillaur area in which a demand for an STF investigation is being demanded. A letter has also been addressed to CM Punjab asking for an STF probe with attached signatures. Pargat Singh was also apprised about this movement by Phillaur.
“Through this memorandum, I on behalf of people of Phillaur and all those associated with me and Phillaur People's Forum (PPF) in the fight against drug abuse, put forth many points to Pargat Singh, which make crystal clear why STF probe into the drug menace has become the need of the hour,” added Phillaur, who is also Founder of the NGO Phillaur People’s Forum (PPF).
He said that even Rahul Gandhi has spoken about countering the drug mafia in Punjab in his 18 point agenda. He further said that there is an overt or a covert complicity of influential people with drug cartels and this is ruining Punjab. An STF probe is the only way to reach big fishes which are behind drug cartels.
