Ferozepur, July 4, 2013: As per directions of Punjab Election Commission, the re-election at Basti Kishan Singh Wala in Block Ferozepur on July 9.

Giving this information, Manjeet Singh Narang, DEO-cum-DC, Ferozpeur said, “Due to pouring of acid in ballot box by some unscrupulous elements, the voting process at Basti Kishan Singh Wala were postponed. As per directions of Punjab Election Commission, the re-election will be conducted on July 9 from 8 AM to 4 PM.”

On the day of election to Gram Panchayats on July 3, four members of a polling party at Booth No 2 of Basti Kishan Singh village were injured after miscreants walked into the booth and poured acid on the ballot boxes. The acid spilled on poll officials Labh Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Sarabjit Singh and Santokh Singh. At least, six persons came to the booth looked to be a milk container. The polling officer allowed them in, thinking that they had brought tea for them. They poured the pot containing acid onto the ballot boxes and fled. The attackers were identified as Baljinder Singh, Shamsher Singh, Dilbag Singh, Satnam Singh, Karamjit Singh and Pratap Singh and they had been booked alongwith 15 unidentified persons.
